Boosting young entrepreneurs with tailored funding mechanisms

Discussions at the Morocco-Gulf Cooperation Forum on youth economic and social empowerment concluded in Casablanca this week with a strong call for enhanced support mechanisms to fuel innovative youth-led projects. The focus centered on creating adaptable financing solutions, particularly in green, blue, and digital economies, to unlock fresh opportunities for young entrepreneurs across the region.

Three-day gathering fosters regional collaboration

The event, organized over three days by the Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication – Youth Department in collaboration with the Gulf Cooperation Council Secretariat General, brought together nearly 100 young leaders, experts, institutional officials, and entrepreneurs from Morocco and Gulf nations. The forum served as a hub for exchanging insights and forging partnerships aimed at strengthening youth empowerment initiatives.

Youth empowerment as a catalyst for sustainable growth

Ahmed Aboukrim, Chair of the Forum’s Scientific Committee, highlighted the pivotal role of youth economic and social empowerment in tackling modern economic, social, and technological challenges. He emphasized that this empowerment is now a cornerstone for achieving sustainable development goals, urging integrated approaches that blend education, skills training, employability, entrepreneurship, innovation, and financing. Strengthening human capital investment, he noted, is critical to boosting national economic competitiveness.

Four key sectors driving youth economic independence

The workshops zeroed in on four strategic sectors identified as new engines for youth economic empowerment: the green economy, artificial intelligence and digital transformation, renewable energy and green hydrogen, and the blue economy alongside water resource management.

Tailored funding and specialized incubators recommended

Recommendations from the sessions included establishing dedicated funds to finance youth-led innovations in green, blue, and digital sectors. Other proposals involved expanding joint research and training programs, developing specialized incubators, and adopting standardized metrics to evaluate the impact of these initiatives on youth employment, innovation, and sustainability. Participants agreed that the complementary strengths of Morocco and Gulf countries—spanning resources, expertise, and investment capacity—create ideal conditions for a regional cooperation model rooted in innovation, knowledge-based economies, and sustainable development.

Emirati delegation praises Morocco’s hosting

Salma Khalifa Al Ghafli, head of the United Arab Emirates delegation, commended the flawless organization and warm hospitality extended by Morocco to all participating delegations. She underscored the deep fraternal ties between Morocco and Gulf Cooperation Council nations, describing the forum as a prime platform for sharing best practices and fostering partnerships that empower youth economically and socially. Investing in young people, she affirmed, is the surest investment in the future of nations.

Closing ceremony honors regional partners

The forum’s closing ceremony paid tribute to the heads of delegations from Gulf Cooperation Council countries and representatives of diplomatic missions from participating nations. This acknowledgment celebrated their contributions to the event’s success and their commitment to deepening cooperation between Morocco and the Gulf in youth development and economic progress.
