Manchester City have agreed to pay Nottingham Forest’s asking price of £120 million for midfielder Elliot Anderson, a deal that will make him the most expensive signing in Premier League history. Personal terms have already been finalised between the player and the Etihad club, with only minor details remaining before official confirmation.

The transfer has been fully agreed between the two clubs, with the fee potentially rising to £130 million with add-ons. Sources close to Manchester City have confirmed that the deal is now complete after final-stage negotiations. Anderson has formally requested permission from Forest to leave, and his medical examination will take place in the United States.

The most expensive player in Premier League history

If the transfer goes through under these conditions, Elliot Anderson will become the costliest player ever seen in the Premier League. The previous record belonged to Alexander Isak, who moved to Liverpool from Newcastle for £125 million (approximately €145 million). Anderson will also surpass Declan Rice as the most expensive British footballer; Rice joined Arsenal from West Ham in 2023 for £105 million (around €122 million).

Anderson a starter for England at the World Cup

A product of Newcastle’s academy, Anderson joined Nottingham Forest in 2024 for £40 million. His outstanding performances at the City Ground quickly made him a vital midfielder for both his club and the English national team. He is currently representing England at the World Cup, having started in both of the team’s first two matches. He provided an assist in England’s 4-2 victory over Croatia.

Manchester City see Anderson as a key piece of their new project following Pep Guardiola’s departure and the arrival of manager Enzo Maresca. It is highly likely that the midfielder will put pen to paper after the World Cup concludes.
