On the other side of the Atlantic, France international Malo Gusto is part of the squad chasing a third World Cup star in the 2026 tournament. In England, however, his move from Chelsea to Manchester City is taking shape and appears to have been sealed following the official appointment of Enzo Maresca as manager.

The long-awaited announcement for Manchester City supporters, who had been without a manager since Pep Guardiola left at the end of May, finally arrived on Monday, June 29. Enzo Maresca has been named the new coach of the Sky Blues, a move that marks the first such appointment by the Citizens’ board since Guardiola’s hiring in 2016. The Italian tactician has signed a three-year contract with City.

Enzo Maresca officially takes the helm at Manchester City

His goal is to pick up where Pep Guardiola left off and continue the remarkable trophy run the Spaniard delivered—20 titles in 10 years. “Manchester City is a club I know very well, and having the opportunity to lead this team is a fantastic chance for me. City is an exceptionally well-run club. Everything is innovative, thoughtful, and executed with a clear purpose. For a coach, it’s an ideal environment. It gives me the stability I need to do my job under the best conditions. I can’t wait to start working with the players. I want us to win, to play quality football, and to enjoy the challenge of representing Manchester City,” Maresca said.

Malo Gusto’s move to City finalized?

This confirmation of Maresca’s signing could well have sealed the end of Malo Gusto’s stint at Chelsea, which began in 2023. Having played under the Italian coach at Stamford Bridge until January 1, 2026, the 23-year-old French international is now expected to reunite with him at the Etihad Stadium. Once the World Cup concludes—a tournament in which the right-back is representing France—Gusto is set to swap the Chelsea jersey for the sky blue of Manchester City.
