Military escort ensures safe delivery of essential goods to Bamako
The Malian Armed Forces successfully concluded a critical logistics operation by escorting a convoy of 940 civilian trucks from Kaïs to Bamako between June 23 and 29. The journey followed the Kaïs-Sandari-Diema-Bamako route, a vital supply corridor for the capital.
According to military sources, the operation began with 540 trucks departing Kaïs toward Sandari. A second military detachment, originating from Diéma, merged with the initial group, integrating stranded vehicles along the way. This strategic consolidation brought the total convoy size to 940 trucks, which then proceeded safely to Bamako without major incidents.
The mission highlights ongoing efforts to maintain supply chain stability amid heightened security challenges and persistent fuel shortages in Bamako. The Kayes-Bamako axis—one of the country’s most critical trade routes—connects the capital to western Mali and provides access to Senegal and Mauritania. This corridor facilitates the movement of petroleum products, food supplies, industrial equipment, and other essential goods to regional markets.
The successful completion of this escort operation underscores the military’s role in safeguarding commercial traffic and ensuring the uninterrupted flow of resources to Bamako’s population.
