Liverpool have dropped their pursuit of Diomande, the young star from RB Leipzig. The 19-year-old winger, who impressed during the World Cup, is now expected to join the Ligue 1 champions.
PSG are highly confident they will finalise a deal with Leipzig soon. The Bundesliga club initially demanded a massive fee, which cooled Liverpool’s interest—the Reds refused to go beyond their internal valuation for the teenager.
With Diomande heading for Ligue 1, Liverpool have turned their attention to Barcola. The 23-year-old winger features prominently on Anfield’s recruitment shortlist. His profile fits what the club is looking for to eventually succeed Salah, especially after the successful signing of Victor Munoz from Osasuna.
The French international’s situation at PSG is complicated. While still highly rated, his future is uncertain due to frustration over not starting in the biggest matches. Specifically, Barcola was disappointed to be left out of the starting eleven for PSG’s recent Champions League final victory over Arsenal, raising doubts about his long-term prospects under Luis Enrique.
PSG are not actively looking to sell Barcola, but they may be forced to let him go this summer. With only two years left on his current contract, this is the last chance for the Parisian side to get a significant fee if the winger refuses to extend. The club will not let him leave on the cheap, but they are unlikely to block a move if a suitable offer arrives.
Arsenal have been mentioned as a possible destination, but the Gunners seem focused on other targets for now. As the transfer window heats up, Liverpool appear to be the most determined club to test PSG’s resolve, especially if Barcola returns from international duty still uneasy about his role in the team.
Signed by Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2023 for €45 million, Barcola has since made 152 appearances for the Parisian club in all competitions. The forward has scored 39 goals and provided 37 assists. His trophy cabinet at PSG includes twelve titles, among them two Champions Leagues and three Ligue 1 championships.
During the group stage of the World Cup, he scored against Senegal and registered an assist against Norway while playing for France.
