The Head of State, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, met with Libreville’s mayor, Eugène Mba, yesterday at the Palais Rénovation. This was their second official encounter since their initial discussion on April 28, focusing on assessing municipal performance, tracking progress against set targets, and strengthening cooperation between national and local authorities.
Mayor Mba briefed the President on a comprehensive update of his strategic roadmap, implemented since assuming office on April 24. He also outlined the new administrative structure of Libreville’s city hall. Key topics included long-term urban transformation initiatives such as reorganizing city spaces, developing modern parking facilities, creating green and botanical zones, combating illegal public land occupation, and enhancing local infrastructure. The meeting also addressed the digital transformation of municipal services.
President Oligui Nguema emphasized the urgent need to accelerate urban sanitation efforts, highlighting cleanliness as a top priority. He called for immediate improvements in household waste collection systems to meet this goal.
Reaffirming his commitment to building a modern and attractive Gabon, the President underscored that Libreville must serve as a flagship example—a capital city that meets international standards in urban planning, local governance, and public service excellence. He urged Mayor Mba to demonstrate unwavering rigor, creative problem-solving, and operational efficiency in executing the outlined projects.
