On behalf of President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, Vice President of the Government Hermann Immongault attended the festivities on June 26 in Antananarivo, marking Madagascar’s 66th year of international sovereignty. Alongside other delegation heads, Immongault watched the military parade at Mahamasina Stadium, which highlighted the dedication, patriotism, and modernization of the armed forces. The commemoration was held under the theme “reform for the development of Madagascar.”
The VPG’s presence underscores the excellent ties between the Gabonese and Malagasy peoples. It also reflects the shared desire of Libreville and Antananarivo to further strengthen their exchanges. This follows the visit of Colonel Michaël Randrianirina, president of Madagascar’s Refondation, to Libreville from June 5 to 7. The highlight of that trip was his one-on-one meeting with his Gabonese counterpart, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, at the Palais du Bord de Mer. After the meeting, Randrianirina expressed his wish to draw inspiration from Gabon’s transition process and commended the achievements made during that period.
In short, by sending the coordinator of government action to these celebrations, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema reaffirms Gabon’s strategic interest in fostering closer ties with the Big Island. The increasing high-level exchanges between the two nations usher in a new era of cooperation, promising advances in political, diplomatic, cultural, and economic development.
