Gabon is currently engaged in advanced negotiations and technical preparations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to establish a fresh framework for economic cooperation. The nation continues to foster a consistent and productive dialogue with its long-standing financial partner. Authorities emphasize that discussions between the Gabonese government and the IMF are progressing smoothly, characterized by a constructive and responsible atmosphere.

Following the conclusion of the spring meetings in April, both Gabonese officials and IMF teams have maintained a steady schedule of videoconference exchanges. These discussions, prioritized for technical work, adhere to a jointly agreed timetable. Notably, on July 2, 2026, at the IMF headquarters in Washington, Thierry Minko, Gabon’s Minister of Economy, Finance, Debt, and Participations, with responsibility for combating the high cost of living, held an amicable meeting. He engaged with the IMF’s Africa Director and his colleagues, including Aliona Cebotari, who serves as the Mission Chief for Gabon.

According to administrative sources, the ongoing dialogue is guided by a collaboratively established and cohesive roadmap. This strategic plan is structured around several key pillars: the amended finance law for 2026, the macroeconomic and budgetary framework spanning 2027-2029, the gradual strengthening of economic, financial, and budgetary data, and the preparation for subsequent phases of engagement with the Fund.
