Legislative activity at the Palais Léon-Mba reached a significant milestone this Saturday. Under the leadership of the President of the institution, Michel Régis Onanga M. Ndiaye, the deputies convened for an intensive plenary session to review an extensive legislative package. With several government ministers present to defend their respective portfolios, the day concluded with a powerful political signal: every one of the 18 bills presented was passed unanimously.

These legislative achievements target strategic sectors aimed at fundamentally modernizing state structures within the framework of the Fifth Republic. One notable advancement includes the ratification of the January 29, 2026, ordinance regarding electronic archiving—a vital move toward the digital transformation of the Gabon administration.

Lawmakers also approved the restructuring of the Haute Autorité de la Communication (HAC). More importantly, the session addressed issues directly impacting the daily lives of citizens, specifically the reform of the Nationality Code and the overhaul of the land ownership regime. This new legal framework is designed to protect the rights of the population while creating a more secure environment for business investors.

Strengthening institutional synergy

The debates within the chamber were characterized by depth and collaboration, transcending political divides. Following the vote, the Executive branch commended the National Assembly for its sense of duty. This alignment between the government and Parliament highlights a collective goal: to reinforce the rule of law and implement the structural changes initiated in the country over the last three years.

To ensure the success of this plenary, the leadership of the National Assembly had met earlier during the traditional Conference of Presidents to finalize the logistical details of this landmark day.

A high-pressure end to the session

Despite the success, there is little time for rest for the parliamentarians. As the ordinary session nears its conclusion, the legislative agenda remains intense. Eight additional bills are currently under review by commissions. These texts will undergo rigorous scrutiny before being presented for a final verdict at the next plenary session.
