The Spanish top-flight football league has announced the postponement of the Celta Vigo versus Osasuna fixture, originally scheduled for Sunday evening at 21:30 local time, as part of the opening weekend of La Liga.
The governing body confirmed the match will now take place on Thursday, August 27 at 20:30, following a thorough inspection of Balaídos pitch. League officials examined the stadium’s playing surface throughout Wednesday, uncovering severe fungal damage that rendered the field unfit for professional competition.
According to the official statement, the Spanish Football League (LaLiga) has full autonomy over scheduling decisions, a power it has held since midway through last season. The league coordinated the change with both clubs and the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).
This postponement marks the fourth fixture from the opening weekend to be rescheduled, joining earlier delays involving Valencia against Real Betis, Real Madrid versus Real Sociedad, and Barcelona’s clash with Athletic Bilbao.
