EBRD strengthens strategic engagement in Sénégal following talks with Bassirou Diomaye Faye
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has publicly declared its heightened ambitions for Sénégal, following a significant meeting with President Bassirou Diomaye Faye. Major initiatives, including the Grand Dakar desalination plant and an expanded commitment to renewable energy, signal a promising future for this bilateral partnership.

President Bassirou Diomaye Faye recently hosted a delegation from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, led by its President, Odile Renaud-Basso.
Reports indicate that discussions focused on the institution’s ongoing projects within Sénégal and explored avenues for deepening its collaborative efforts with Senegalese authorities.
EBRD’s current initiatives and future projects in Sénégal
Since establishing its presence in Sénégal, the EBRD has initiated several key undertakings. These include the recruitment of local teams and providing financial backing for projects across critical sectors such as water, energy, and private sector development.
Among the significant projects highlighted is the Grand Dakar desalination plant, a collaborative effort with ACWA Power, which is poised to substantially enhance the water supply for the greater Dakar region.
Furthermore, the institution is actively involved in supporting initiatives related to renewable energy and facilitating financing for domestic private sector ventures.
During the meeting, the EBRD affirmed its strong commitment to expanding its engagement in Sénégal, in alignment with the strategic directions outlined in the nation’s ambitious Vision Sénégal 2050 framework.
