Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo – The Ministry of Mines recently hosted the official awards ceremony for the “BUANYA” excellence competition. Held on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at the Pullman Grand Hotel in Kinshasa, this significant event recognized the innovative contributions of graduates from the École Nationale d’Administration (ENA). The initiative, spearheaded by Minister of Mines Louis Watum Kabamba, aimed to engage these bright minds in developing strategic solutions for the Congolese mining sector.
The ceremony saw the presence of key figures, including the Secretary General of Mines, heads of various oversight bodies, members of the esteemed jury, and the participating ENA graduates, alongside numerous distinguished guests. A highlight of the evening was the announcement of the results and the presentation of awards to the winning teams.
Over several weeks, 48 ENA graduates, organized into six collaborative teams, dedicated themselves to extensive research and in-depth analysis of critical themes within the mining industry. Their work spanned crucial areas such as mining governance, ensuring transparency and traceability of resources, combating fraud, regulating artisanal mining activities, advancing geological exploration, promoting the equitable distribution of sector benefits, and fostering the development of new mining projects.
Minister Watum Kabamba emphasized the Democratic Republic of Congo’s pivotal role in the global energy transition. He reiterated that this strategic position carries a profound responsibility: to transform the nation’s vast mineral resources into powerful engines for development, thereby generating employment opportunities, facilitating modern infrastructure, and delivering high-quality social services across the country.
The Minister also encouraged the award recipients to continue serving as beacons of excellence, integrity, and positive change. He reaffirmed that the future of mining governance in the DRC must be built upon principles of meritocracy, innovation, transparency, and a steadfast commitment to delivering tangible results.
This forward-thinking initiative aligns perfectly with the overarching vision of President Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, a vision diligently implemented under the coordination of Prime Minister Judith Suminwa Tuluka. Both leaders have consistently placed the empowerment of human capital and robust good governance at the very core of public action.
The ceremony concluded on a warm and celebratory note with a collective family photo. This moment symbolized the culmination of a truly enriching experience and marked the beginning of enhanced involvement from the administrative youth in shaping the future transformation of the Congolese mining sector.
