French football sensation Dayann Methalie is on the brink of a blockbuster Premier League move after Toulouse and Sunderland agreed a complete transfer deal.

French football is set to lose another young star as Toulouse finalises the departure of left-back Dayann Methalie. After weeks of intense negotiations, the Violets and Sunderland have reached a full agreement for the 20-year-old’s transfer during this summer’s transfer window.

Earlier in the week, Toulouse had rejected a bid around €33 million for their promising defender. However, a revised offer of approximately €30 million—including potential bonuses—convinced the French club to seal the deal. A restructured bonus structure and a larger upfront payment were key factors in closing the agreement with the English side.

The young talent will head to England on Saturday to undergo a mandatory medical examination before officially joining Sunderland.

A rising star poised for Premier League glory

As confirmed earlier this summer, Dayann Methalie has already agreed to a five-year contract with Sunderland. The Toulouse academy graduate, who has earned four caps for France’s U21 team, delivered a standout season with the Violets in Ligue 1.

The €30 million transfer fee marks Toulouse’s second major financial windfall of the summer, following the sale of Brazilian midfielder Emersonn to Ipswich Town for nearly €32 million.

Playing as a left-back, Methalie featured in 30 competitive matches during the 2025-2026 season, contributing two goals and two assists in Ligue 1. His impressive performances caught the attention of multiple overseas clubs during the transfer window. However, the lure of Sunderland’s ambitious project under manager Régis Le Bris—a team prioritising attacking football—ultimately secured his signature.
