The civil trial pitting former Tourism Minister Mame Mbaye Niang against Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko over the ownership of a villa in the Keur Gorgui district has been postponed to 22 July 2026 by the Third Civil Chamber of the Dakar court.

The legal dispute centers on a 264 m² property (lot R/17) in Keur Gorgui, which Mame Mbaye Niang claims was fraudulently transferred to Ousmane Sonko‘s family. The ex-minister seeks to reclaim the villa to enforce a 200 million CFA franc damages award granted in a prior criminal case.

Legal maneuvering behind the delayed ruling

According to Mame Mbaye Niang‘s legal team, the transfer of the leasehold rights to the villa was part of a calculated effort to shield the property from seizure by making Ousmane Sonko appear insolvent. The case, previously adjourned, now awaits the judge’s final deliberation after the plaintiff’s lawyers submit their rebuttals to the defense’s written arguments.
