In a statement released by its Directorate, the group asserts that the Social Transformation Project spearheaded by Ousmane Sonko is under severe threat. The document highlights the alleged takeover of power by individuals who were not the original architects of the March 25, 2024 patriotic revolution, warning that the ultimate target of this shift is none other than Ousmane Sonko, the guiding figure behind the movement.
This perspective aligns closely with the rhetoric used by Sonko in his recent doctrinal speeches. During the Diamniadio congress, he introduced the concept of the “popular bloc,” cautioning that while people may seize power, transforming the state requires deeper, sustained efforts. The CODES now fully embraces this framework, framing the protection of the Project as a national priority for Senegal’s future.
In response to these developments, the organization is rallying for nationwide mobilization. It urges the youth and all citizens to unite behind Sonko to safeguard the Project. Additionally, it extends a broader appeal to democratic forces, calling on them to “return by the hundreds, thousands, and millions” to Pastef-Les Patriotes to secure its success. The statement concludes with a resolute call to action.
This push for unity follows a period of intensified mobilization by the party leader, who has been touring the country in recent weeks. During a visit to Mbacké, Sonko emphasized the need for local leaders to overcome internal divisions ahead of the 2029 presidential election. The merger with CODES contrasts sharply with recent trends within the political landscape, where several high-ranking members have defected to join forces with the administration, underscoring the deepening polarization in Senegal’s political arena.
