With the 66th anniversary of Chad’s independence fast approaching on August 11, 2026, Pahimi Padacké Albert, president of the National Rally of Chadian Democrats (RNDT-Le Réveil) and a prominent opposition figure, has issued a powerful appeal for unity, reconciliation, and national appeasement.
In his address marking this significant national holiday, the former Prime Minister conveyed his message to the Chadian people with a profound sense of “humility, gravity, and responsibility.”
Pahimi Padacké Albert observed that this year’s independence celebration unfolds amidst a complex political landscape, characterized by underlying tensions and widespread frustrations. “We commemorate our freedom this year within a climate of silent but heavy political tension, and frustrations fueled by a pervasive sense of multidimensional exclusion,” he stated.
Responding to this challenging environment, the leader of RNDT-Le Réveil strongly advocated for enhanced dialogue and greater openness. “Today, I once again responsibly call for unity, appeasement, a spirit of openness, and the reconciliation of hearts,” he emphasized.
In his compelling message, Pahimi Padacké Albert directly addressed the President of the Republic, Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, urging him to implement measures designed to strengthen national cohesion.
“On the eve of this celebration, I solemnly appeal to all Chadians, and first among them, the Marshal of Chad, President of the Republic, Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno: May strong decisions emerge to conquer feelings of exclusion and bring our people together more deeply within the unity of the Chadian family. May the constitutional means at the Head of State’s disposal be mobilized to restore freedom to political actors whose rightful place is not in prison. May genuine political openness, built upon frank, fraternal, and patriotic discussions, affirm this momentum of appeasement, while respecting the rich political, cultural, and religious diversities of the nation’s sons and daughters,” he declared.
