Chadian delegation visits Yaoundé to advance ICT integration in education with UNESCO’s support

The UNESCO Regional Office for Central Africa is actively supporting nations in their efforts to transform educational systems through a collaborative and synergistic approach.

Within this framework, a pivotal study visit focused on leveraging best practices for integrating Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) into education took place in Yaoundé from April 20 to 24, 2026.

This mission is a key component of the Chadian Government’s ongoing commitment to modernize its educational system and enhance access to quality, inclusive, and equitable education for all citizens. It aligns seamlessly with major national strategic directives, including the 2022–2026 National Development Plan, the “Chad Connection 2030” vision, the National Teacher Policy (PNET), and the Program for the Refoundation of the Chadian School (PRET). The PRET initiative, backed by the Global Partnership for Education, receives crucial implementation support from UNESCO and UNICEF.

In a nation facing significant structural challenges, the integration of ICT is seen as a vital catalyst for enhancing teaching quality, expanding educational access, and strengthening governance within the Chadian education sector. The PRET program specifically aims to introduce a gradual digital transformation through practical, accessible, and low-tech solutions that are carefully tailored to local realities.

It is with this vision that Chad’s Ministry of National Education and Civic Promotion initiated this learning expedition. The mission sought to draw upon the valuable experience of Cameroon, a country recognized for its progress in digital education across both formal and non-formal sectors.

The mission’s comprehensive agenda featured a series of institutional meetings, technical site visits, and interactive workshops with key stakeholders from Cameroon’s education sector.

At the Ministry of Basic Education (MINEDUB), a crucial technical meeting convened specialized directorates, academic partners, and other essential institutions. These discussions provided an in-depth presentation of Cameroon’s model for ICT integration, exploring its pedagogical, curricular, organizational, and infrastructural dimensions.

Conversations also delved into teacher training frameworks, the digital tools currently in use, institutional coordination mechanisms, and the strategic partnerships forged to bolster the digital transformation of the educational system.

Beyond mere experience sharing, the mission employed a stringent methodological approach, combining documentary analysis, stakeholder interviews, field observations, and collaborative working sessions. This comprehensive strategy aimed to pinpoint crucial success factors, document transferable practices, and adapt these lessons to Chad’s unique context.

Anticipated outcomes from this initiative include the production of a detailed mission report, the formulation of actionable recommendations, and the creation of a prioritized action plan to guide the integration of ICT into Chad’s educational system.

Regional cooperation for more resilient educational systems

This endeavor underscores the UNESCO Regional Office’s vital role as a facilitator of cooperation and a catalyst for innovation among Central African nations. It also contributes to a broader regional movement of expertise exchange, aiming to establish sustainable mechanisms for sharing best practices across countries in the sub-region.

By fostering mutual learning and the adaptation of proven solutions, this mission significantly strengthens the resilience of educational systems and accelerates their transformation in the digital age.
