The Vice-Premier Minister in charge of Territorial Administration, Limane Mahamat, has been on an official visit to Moundou since May 19, 2026, to oversee and evaluate territorial governance in Chad’s southern provinces.

From May 20 to 21, 2026, high-level discussions took place at the headquarters of the Logone Occidental Provincial Council. Key participants included government delegates from southern provinces, regional prefects, municipal mayors, provincial council presidents, as well as national deputies and senators.

The opening session was led by Dago Yacoub, the General Delegate of the Government for Logone Occidental, who warmly welcomed the delegation from N’Djamena. He emphasized that this gathering would provide local authorities with deeper insights into the region’s pressing needs and realities, enabling them to address challenges more effectively.

“This mission gives our leader the chance to experience firsthand the ground realities,” Yacoub stated, highlighting its importance in shaping targeted solutions for the population.

Addressing the attendees, Vice-Premier Minister Limane Mahamat underscored the critical role of southern Chad in the country’s economic stability. He referred to the region as the nation’s “agricultural breadbasket,” stressing its vital contribution to national food security.

However, he also pointed out pressing security concerns plaguing the southern provinces, including farmer-herder conflicts, intercommunal tensions, and the illegal arms trade. These issues, he noted, are destabilizing social cohesion and deepening community divisions.

Through this initiative, the Chadian government aims to strengthen local governance, enhance coordination between central authorities and regional administrations, and foster sustainable development in the southern provinces.
