For over a week, online reports have been circulating, suggesting that the border crossing between Morocco and Spain at Ceuta would reopen this Saturday, August 15th. However, authorities from both nations have clarified that new protocols are now in effect, specifically designed to prevent any fresh surge of migrants.
This development follows a significant event in late July, when approximately 72,000 individuals crossed into Spain via Ceuta. The vast majority of these individuals were subsequently returned to Morocco. In light of these ongoing challenges between the two countries, Patrick Martin-Genier, an academic from Sciences Po, emphasized the critical need for both Morocco and Spain to actively work towards de-escalation and stabilize their relationship.
