The Cameroon Water Utilities (Camwater) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) signed a partnership agreement on 30 June 2026 in Yaoundé, aimed at sustainably improving access to drinking water for refugees and host communities, particularly in the Extreme-Nord region.

Camwater and UNHCR are strengthening their cooperation to support vulnerable populations. The two institutions signed a partnership agreement on Tuesday, 30 June 2026 in Yaoundé, focused on improving drinking water supply in the area of the Minawao refugee camp, located in the Extreme-Nord region.

The agreement was signed by the Director General of Camwater, Dr. Blaise Moussa, and the UNHCR Representative in Cameroun, Ms. Yvette Muhimpundu. It is part of the “Alternative Solutions to the Minawao Camp” project, supported by the European Union, German Cooperation (GIZ), and UNHCR.

Under this agreement, Camwater will provide its expertise in the design, construction, and monitoring of water supply infrastructure, while UNHCR will continue its efforts to protect refugees and strengthen their resilience, in collaboration with Cameroonian authorities.

Both institutions aim to improve the living conditions of refugees and host communities, while addressing challenges related to population pressure and sustainable water resource management.
