The national telecommunications operator of Cameroon, CAMTEL, recently welcomed a high-level delegation from the American tech giant, Amazon Web Services (AWS). Their discussions centered on accelerating Cameroon’s digital transformation through advanced cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and satellite technologies.
Cameroon’s digital landscape is poised for a significant leap forward in innovation. Cameroon Telecommunications (CAMTEL) officially revealed that it has initiated strategic talks with Amazon Web Services (AWS), a global leader in cloud computing. A crucial working session took place in Yaoundé, bringing together senior management from the public operator and representatives from Amazon’s African subsidiary.
The AWS Africa delegation included Ms. Raya Nassar and Mr. Naidoo Terrence. Highlighting the geopolitical and economic significance of this gathering, the discussions were also attended by Ms. Antoinette Manyaga, who represents the ICT services of the United States Embassy in Cameroon.

A Three-Pronged Technological Focus: Satellite, Cloud, and AI
The ongoing discussions between these two entities are establishing the groundwork for a future collaboration built upon three critical technological pillars, vital for the digital evolution of the Central African sub-region:
- Satellite Technologies: Aimed at enhancing connectivity in remote areas and bolstering CAMTEL’s existing infrastructure.
- Cutting-Edge Cloud Solutions: Designed to provide Cameroonian businesses and government agencies with highly secure and flexible data storage and processing capabilities.
- Artificial Intelligence (AI): Intended to modernize services, optimize the operator’s networks, and deliver innovative solutions to end-users.
“Together, CAMTEL and AWS are exploring potential synergies to accelerate digital transformation in Cameroon and deliver the best of innovation to our customers,” stated the historical operator’s top management.
Driving Forward Digital Transformation
For CAMTEL, this developing relationship with AWS aligns perfectly with its strategic goals of modernizing infrastructure and expanding its service offerings. By leveraging the technological expertise of a global leader like Amazon, the Cameroonian operator aims to establish itself as a pivotal digital hub within Central Africa.
Should this partnership materialize into definitive agreements, it is expected to significantly boost cloud adoption across Cameroon’s public administration and private sector, simultaneously fostering growth within the local technology startup ecosystem.
