Cameroon and Chad strengthen military ties after unity celebrations

Following a military parade marking National Unity Day, attended by Chad’s army, Cameroon and Chad are reinforcing their long-standing bilateral cooperation rooted in shared security interests and enduring military camaraderie.
On the day after the 54th edition of Cameroon’s National Unity Day celebrations, both nations reaffirmed the strength of their military and diplomatic cooperation. Deputy Minister of Defense Joseph Beti Assomo met with Chad’s Minister of National Defense, Veterans, and War Victims, General Issakha Malloua Djamous, in Yaoundé on May 21, 2026.
The meeting, held in the Ministry of Defense’s conference hall, marked a significant step in deepening relations between the two countries. Cameroon and Chad are focused on strengthening their historical bilateral cooperation, which is built on shared security priorities and a commitment to ongoing military cooperation, as outlined in a defense ministry press release.
The Chadian delegation, led by General Issakha Malloua Djamous, was welcomed in a warm and mutually respectful atmosphere. Discussions centered on enhancing defense cooperation between Cameroon and Chad’s armed forces, as well as addressing the region’s common security challenges.
This working session also highlighted the alignment between Yaoundé and N’Djamena on key strategic issues. Both leaders emphasized the importance of maintaining close collaboration to uphold regional stability and security.
As a special guest of Cameroon during the 54th National Unity Day celebrations, Chad’s National and Nomadic Guard detachment made a notable contribution by participating in the parade on Yaoundé’s May 20 Boulevard. This symbolic presence underscored the excellence of military cooperation and fraternity between the two nations.
Beyond military aspects, this meeting reflects the determination of Cameroonian and Chadian authorities to preserve and strengthen the bonds of brotherhood between their peoples. Through this engagement, Cameroon reaffirms its commitment to deepening strategic partnerships with neighboring countries in the region, fostering peace, security, and African integration.
