The National Education Council (CNE) recently convened its third consultative assembly in Cotonou, held from August 5 to 7, 2026. This significant gathering was dedicated to advancing scientific, technological, and vocational education across Bénin. Key stakeholders, including government officials, university representatives, various public and private institutions, technical and financial partners, and civil society organizations, came together to address critical priorities within the Béninese educational framework.
Hosted at the Golden Tulip hotel, this consultative assembly formed a crucial part of an ongoing national dialogue. This dialogue aims to determine how education, research, and vocational training can best contribute to Bénin’s industrialization and digital transformation goals. Deliberations particularly centered on strategies to enhance student engagement and orientation towards scientific, technological, and professional disciplines.
The gathering brought together CNE members, government representatives, esteemed academics, leaders from both public and private institutions, and various civil society organizations. The objective was to foster a collaborative environment where diverse analyses and practical experiences could be shared, ultimately informing and guiding public policy decisions within the education sector.
In his address, Clément Chabi, the Executive Secretary of the CNE, highlighted the institution’s role as a vital platform for national dialogue among all educational stakeholders. He underscored his conviction that sustainable development, national prosperity, and technological sovereignty are intrinsically linked to strategic investments in youth, rigorous research, and the cultivation of high-quality human capital.
Evaluating recommendations and preparing Bénin vision 2060
Noël Ahonangnon Gbaguidi, President of the National Education Council, reiterated the CNE’s fundamental legal and strategic mandates. He emphasized the institution’s critical role in shaping major educational policies, ensuring the coordination of the national system, and meticulously overseeing the implementation of public decisions within this domain.
Comprising 69 distinguished members drawn from both public and private sectors, the consultative assembly also undertook a thorough review of the National Education Council’s activity reports and financial statements. Following this, the assembly is tasked with formulating comprehensive recommendations aimed at enhancing the overall functioning and performance of the national education system.
Over the three-day working period, participants were tasked with assessing the progress and implementation of recommendations adopted during prior sessions. Discussions also focused intensely on strategies for elevating the quality of instruction and ensuring a cohesive alignment between current educational priorities and the ambitious «Bénin 2060» national vision.
For the CNE, strengthening scientific, technological, and professional disciplines is perceived as a vital catalyst for fostering innovation, supporting Bénin’s digital transformation, and meeting the evolving demands of industrialization. While the strategic direction is clear, the precise operational methods for implementing the recommendations from this session are yet to be detailed.
