Razacki Amouda Issifou

Razacki Amouda Issifou has become the new mediator of the republic in Bénin. This appointment follows a modification of the law governing this institution, adopted on Wednesday, 24 June 2026.

Under the new rules, the position of mediator of the republic is now automatically held by the first vice-president of the Economic and Social Council (CES). This reform replaces the previous appointment system.

As the current first vice-president of the CES, Razacki Amouda Issifou takes on this role. He succeeds Pascal Essou, who had held the office since 2021. The institutional change was approved by deputies during a plenary session at the National Assembly and is part of ongoing reforms to the functioning of the republic’s institutions.

A former vice-president of the constitutional court, Razacki Amouda Issifou brings extensive public service experience to the role. Trained as a lawyer, he has also served as a deputy, chair of the National Assembly’s law commission, mayor, and secretary-general of the first independent national electoral commission (CENA) in 1996.

The mediator of the republic is tasked with facilitating the resolution of disputes between citizens and the public administration. This office intervenes to find amicable solutions when individuals feel wronged in their dealings with state services.
