During a working and friendship visit to Lomé, Beninese President Romuald Wadagni met with Togolese President Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé to reaffirm their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, regional integration, and cross-border security coordination.

The Lomé visit marks a key stop in President Wadagni’s ongoing regional tour, following earlier diplomatic stops in Nigeria, Niger, and Burkina Faso. This tour underscores the new leader’s dedication to reinforcing ties with neighboring West African nations, a priority since assuming office.

During Wednesday’s discussions in Lomé, the two heads of state explored ways to deepen cooperation in trade, infrastructure, and border management. A joint statement released after their meeting highlighted their shared vision for closer economic collaboration, including improved trade flows and private sector investment.

The leaders also addressed regional challenges, emphasizing their commitment to West African unity and the free movement of people and goods. With growing security concerns, including terrorism and cross-border crime, both sides pledged to step up joint security efforts to safeguard stability in the region.

At the conclusion of the visit, President Wadagni extended an official invitation to President Gnassingbé for a state visit to Benin. The Togolese leader accepted, and both sides agreed to finalize the details through diplomatic channels.
