Barcelona has set a firm 48-hour timeframe to finalize the acquisition of Manchester City’s midfield maestro, Rodri. The Catalan giants are aggressively pursuing a definitive agreement to ensure the Spanish international can be unveiled during the upcoming Joan Gamper Trophy match.

Negotiations between the two European powerhouses have reached a critical juncture as they strive to bridge the valuation disparity. Manchester City is demanding a package approaching 80 million euros (£69 million) to sanction the midfielder’s departure.

Barcelona’s most recent official bid, totaling €60 million plus €10 million in add-ons, was rejected by Manchester City. A subsequent revised proposal, increasing the offer to €75 million, also failed to secure the transfer, leading to intensive discussions structured over the weekend.

The primary obstacle in the ongoing discussions remains the precise financial framework of the transfer. City aims to maximize the guaranteed portion of the fee, while Barcelona endeavors to limit its upfront expenditure.

Both clubs are currently evaluating two main compromise formulas to meet the required valuation. One proposed structure involves €70 million in fixed payments with reduced bonuses, while another suggests €65 million fixed, complemented by €15 million in performance-related add-ons.

Crucially, Rodri has unequivocally expressed his firm intention to leave England and prioritizes a move to Barcelona. With alternative interest from Real Madrid now completely dismissed, the midfielder’s clear stance has provided the Blaugrana with significant leverage during negotiations.

Rodri recently returned to England to resume pre-season preparations with Manchester City after requesting a brief delay to sort out his future. He intends to regain match fitness with City, even though his tenure in Manchester could be short-lived.

Barça considers City’s valuation somewhat elevated, especially given that the midfielder has only one year remaining on his contract. However, the Catalan management acknowledges that they must meet the English club’s financial demands to secure his signature immediately.

President Joan Laporta is now set to directly intervene in the final stages of the negotiations. Barcelona hopes that Laporta’s personal involvement will facilitate the conclusion of an agreement over the weekend or, at the latest, by Monday.

Should Barcelona successfully meet its self-imposed deadline, Rodri is expected to travel to Catalonia shortly after the agreement is concluded. The club anticipates his participation in his inaugural training session on Tuesday, ahead of his anticipated appearance at the Joan Gamper Trophy presentation.
