Spanning an impressive 5,200 m² of covered space, the Mohammed VI Professional Training Center in Bamako, Mali, is poised to deliver specialized vocational education tailored to the dynamic demands of the Malian job market. This state-of-the-art facility represents a significant investment in the nation’s human capital.
Mamary Diarra, the National Director of Tourism, emphasized the profound bond between the two nations. “First and foremost, I wish to acknowledge the exceptional cooperation between the State of Mali and the Kingdom of Morocco,” Diarra stated. “This generous gift from His Majesty Mohammed VI stands as clear evidence of the understanding and friendship shared by our countries.” He further elaborated on the center’s local impact, noting, “This institution will empower young Malians with skills right here in Bamako. It boasts modern classrooms, practical training restaurants, and mock hotel facilities. It’s truly a valuable asset for the Malian government.”
Once fully operational, this modern infrastructure is designed to host nearly 1,000 trainees annually across 21 distinct training programs. These programs are strategically divided, with 12 streams dedicated to construction and public works (BTP) trades, and 9 streams focusing on the vital sectors of tourism, hospitality, and catering.
Mamadou Minkoro Traoré, President of the Permanent Assembly of Chambers of Trades of Mali (APCMM), underscored the profound significance of establishing such a professional training center within Mali. He highlighted the newfound ability “to train our youth locally, whereas previously, trainees often had to travel to Morocco for their education. Beyond providing high-quality training, this institution also eliminates the significant travel and accommodation expenses for these students.”
Mamadou Traoré, the founder of Balimaya and a haute couture and styling professional trained in Morocco, emphasized Mali’s urgent need for skilled human resources in key development areas. “The activation of this center couldn’t have come at a more opportune moment,” he remarked. “I extend my gratitude to the Moroccan authorities for entrusting this center to Mali, as it will enable young Malians to acquire valuable trades, helping them avoid perilous journeys. This institution will play a crucial role in the fight against youth unemployment across the nation.”
During the official handover of this facility to Malian authorities last July, Oumou Sall Seck, Mali’s Minister of National Entrepreneurship, Employment, and Vocational Training, stressed that this initiative directly addresses a strategic need for Mali. It aims to enhance skill development and strengthen human capital in sectors critical for the country’s sustained economic and social advancement. This center is a cornerstone of Mali’s current affairs and future development, offering a pathway to a skilled workforce in Bamako and beyond.
