Algeria’s Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, Abdelkader Djellaoui, embarked on a two-day working visit to the Republic of Chad this Wednesday. Leading a high-level delegation, the minister’s agenda focuses on exploring strategies and mechanisms for implementing joint infrastructure projects, with a particular emphasis on the vital Trans-Saharan Road initiative.
This visit aligns directly with directives from Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and builds upon discussions held during the recent visit of the Chadian President to Algeria. The shared objective is to imbue bilateral cooperation with a tangible and pragmatic dimension, ultimately fostering development within both nations.
Minister Djellaoui, accompanied by Abed Hallouz, the Director General of the Algerian Agency for International Cooperation for Solidarity and Development (AICA), arrived at N’Djamena’s Hassan Djamous International Airport on Wednesday evening. They were greeted by Chad’s Minister of Infrastructure, Disenclavement, and Road Maintenance, Amir Idriss Kourda, alongside several other Chadian officials.
The Algerian delegation comprises over 14 experts and engineers, marking their second visit to the Republic of Chad. Their mission is to continue the technical assessments initiated during their previous trip, and the team includes the CEOs of “Cosider travaux publics” and the National Public Works Company (SNTP), as well as the Director General of the National Technical Control Body for Public Works (CTTP).
The public works sector plays a pivotal role in the cooperation between Algeria and Chad, serving as a primary catalyst for economic integration. Algeria maintains a strong interest in the Trans-Saharan Road project, recognizing its strategic importance as a sustainable link for the economies of both countries and the broader region. Consequently, the visit will primarily concentrate on the effective implementation of two specific sections of the Trans-Saharan Road within Chadian territory, which are considered crucial segments of this continental artery.
Leveraging the extensive experience gained by its national enterprises in constructing major road infrastructure, particularly in challenging Saharan environments, Algeria is committing its technical expertise and capabilities to this transformative project. This commitment is expected to drive significant change and invigorate regional trade exchanges.
The working visit is anticipated to yield concrete outcomes that will further strengthen Algerian-Chadian collaboration in the vital areas of infrastructure and public works.
