After two intensive days of discussions in N’Djamena, the African Water Forum drew to a close, focusing on the continent’s most pressing water challenges. Held under the theme « From Vision to Action », this high-level gathering brought together African leaders, financial partners, and water sector experts to address sustainable water management and equitable access across the region.

From promises to tangible results

The forum concluded with a strong call to move beyond declarations and accelerate implementation. Farouk Mollah Banna, representing the World Bank Group, emphasized that the true test of success lies in turning commitments into measurable improvements for communities.

« The well-being of millions across Africa hinges on our ability to deliver reliable, fair, and widespread access to water, food, and sustainable livelihoods, » he stated. « The commitments made here must now be translated into ground-level action without delay. »

Lake Chad: a shared priority for Africa

Prime Minister Allah Maye Halina placed the Lake Chad basin at the center of continental priorities, highlighting its critical role in regional stability and food security. The shrinking lake, once a lifeline for millions, has become a symbol of urgent environmental and humanitarian concern.

« The survival of the Lake Chad basin is not just a matter for the countries that share its waters—it is a matter of peace, economic progress, and food security for over 30 million people, » he declared. « This is no longer just an African issue; it is a global responsibility. We must act now to secure the future of this vital ecosystem. »

Next steps: turning words into action

Organizers are urging swift follow-through on the forum’s recommendations, stressing that delayed action risks deepening water insecurity across the continent. With climate change intensifying droughts and straining resources, the need for coordinated, results-driven solutions has never been greater.
