Africa24, dubbed a financial black hole for Cameroon, faces shutdown

Africa24, the pan-African news channel often described as a financial sinkhole for Cameroon, is now on the brink of disappearing. The broadcaster, which has drained substantial public funds, faces an uncertain future as its viability comes into question.

Over the years, the channel has been criticized for its heavy reliance on state subsidies, yet failing to generate sustainable revenue or viewership. Critics label it a black hole that swallows Cameroonian taxpayer money with little return.

Now, with mounting debts and waning political support, the end may be near for Africa24. The government is reportedly weighing options, including a possible shutdown or restructuring, but no final decision has been announced.
