Ousmane Sonko has issued a decisive statement through a social media post, following high-level discussions with Senegal’s President.

The meetings, though fruitful in identifying areas of agreement, ultimately failed to resolve key disagreements, particularly regarding the role of the majority party in the executive framework—a structure whose details remain undisclosed.

Sonko stated: “This morning, a lengthy discussion took place between the President of the Republic and myself. While some convergences were confirmed, significant disagreements persist, especially concerning the place and role of the majority in the executive setup, whose structure remains unclear to us.”

He concluded: “As a result, PASTEF-Les Patriotes will not participate in the upcoming government and will not be represented by any minister.”

Official PASTEF Executive Committee Statement

In a display of responsibility and adherence to the commitments reiterated by Ousmane Sonko during his swearing-in at the National Assembly, PASTEF-Les Patriotes engaged in extensive consultations with the President of the Republic regarding the formation of the new government.

The meeting between the President and Sonko confirmed both convergences and persistent disagreements, particularly on the role of the majority party within the executive structure—details of which remain obscure.

After presenting new proposals to the President following internal party deliberations, no favorable response was received.

Consequently, PASTEF-Les Patriotes will not take part in the upcoming government and will not be represented by any minister.

Further updates will follow.

We extend our best wishes to the new team for success.
