Aldiouma Sow, special advisor to the Senegalese presidency, has issued a strong rebuttal to Ousmane Sonko’s recent remarks, just 48 hours before the PASTEF party’s upcoming congress. In a firm statement, Sow defended President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, dismissing claims of a so-called “secret pact” allegedly made during the President’s detention at Cap Manuel.
Sow categorically denied any such agreement, emphasizing that Bassirou Diomaye Faye remained unwavering in his political convictions throughout the 2024 transition. According to the advisor, the President never engaged in any maneuver to undermine the Senegalese people’s democratic right to choose their leader. “He never participated in any attempt to hijack the sovereign will of the people,” Sow asserted.
Addressing broader concerns, Sow highlighted the President’s steadfast belief in political dialogue—not as a tactical tool for power struggles, but as a core value shaping his governance. This perspective, he argued, defines Bassirou Diomaye Faye’s approach to leadership and institutional decision-making.
The timing of Sow’s remarks underscores tensions within the PASTEF and the wider political landscape ahead of the party’s highly anticipated congress. His statements reignite discussions about the dynamics between key figures in Senegal’s executive branch and the future direction of the government.
