The National Agency of Civil Aviation and Meteorology (ANACIM) has issued a critical advisory concerning a significant ocean swell and powerful gusts threatening the Senegalese coastline. All members of the maritime community are urged to exercise heightened caution and strictly adhere to safety guidelines until May 16.

ANACIM has released an urgent warning regarding hazardous ocean conditions, including substantial swells and strong winds, anticipated along segments of the Senegalese coastline over the coming days.

According to the meteorological authority, a North-Westerly swell, potentially exceeding 2.5 meters in height, is forecast to impact the Grande Côte starting Tuesday, May 12, at 03:00. This phenomenon is then anticipated to reach Dakar by Wednesday, May 13, at 01:00.

ANACIM indicates that these challenging marine conditions are projected to persist until Saturday, May 16, at 01:00.

Concurrently, robust northerly winds are expected to sweep across the Grande Côte from Monday, May 11, at 23:00, through Wednesday, May 13, at 07:00, with gusts reaching speeds of up to 40 km/h.

The agency highlights several potential repercussions from these atmospheric and oceanic developments. These include extremely turbulent seas, operational challenges for both navigation and fishing activities, and perilous waves along the shore. Small boats and lighter vessels are particularly vulnerable to the identified hazards.
