Ousmane Sonko warns Al Aminou Lo with strong statements amid political tensions

Ousmane Sonko addresses the press

In a display of growing political friction, Ousmane Sonko, former Prime Minister, issued stern warnings to Al Aminou Lo, the newly appointed head of government. Sonko’s remarks, delivered publicly this week, reflect deepening tensions within Senegal’s political landscape.

Addressing the media on Tuesday, Sonko did not shy away from expressing his irritation toward the new Prime Minister’s recent statements. His comments, laced with veiled threats, signal a sharp escalation in the rivalry between the two leaders.

The former head of government urged Al Aminou Lo to adhere strictly to his role as a technocrat. « I advise him to limit himself to the technical aspects of governance, » Sonko declared. « He claims to be a technocrat—so he should act like one. »

Political tensions cast a shadow over leadership

Sonko went further, alleging that Al Aminou Lo played a key role in exacerbating tensions between the Pastef party and the President. « We are fully aware of the role he played in the disputes between Pastef and the head of state, » Sonko stated. « Until now, we have chosen not to disclose all the details. Let him calm down. »

He also criticized the new Prime Minister’s remarks during the unveiling of the government lineup. « Yesterday, I heard him lecturing others during the announcement. Perhaps he should start by applying those lessons to himself, » Sonko remarked with a sharp tone.

In a final warning, Sonko hinted at undisclosed information that could further complicate the situation. « We know everything, » he asserted. « We have chosen to remain silent on certain matters, but do not provoke us. »
