Cameroon’s opposition is rallying behind a critical demand: the immediate respect of the electoral calendar. Joshua Osih, president of the Social Democratic Front (SDF), has issued a strong call for unity among all opposition parties to ensure elections proceed without further delay.

During a press conference on July 23, Joshua Osih emphasized that the electoral calendar belongs to the Cameroonian people, not the government. He urged all opposition factions to form a united front to defend this fundamental right.
«Elections must proceed as scheduled. No further postponements are acceptable. The electoral calendar is not the government’s property—it belongs to the people. I call on all opposition parties to form a Common Front to uphold this demand,» Osih declared.
To date, no opposition leader has publicly responded to his appeal.

The opposition’s push comes months after municipal and legislative elections were postponed. The government cited financial, logistical, and security constraints as reasons for the delay. A new law passed by the National Assembly and a presidential decree in June 2026 extended the mandate until February 2027.
