In a high-level meeting held in Rabat, Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita hosted Jean-Pierre Lacroix, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations, marking his second official visit to the Kingdom.
The discussions between the two officials highlighted Morocco’s pivotal role and its exemplary, substantial contributions to United Nations peacekeeping missions.
This active involvement is the result of a strategic Royal vision that has remained steadfast since 1960, underscoring a long-term commitment to global stability through UN-led initiatives.
Morocco currently stands as the ninth-largest troop contributor to United Nations peace operations. Furthermore, the Kingdom is set to chair the UN Peacebuilding Commission (PBC) in 2026 and continues to serve as the coordinator for the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) on peacekeeping issues. These responsibilities reflect the high level of international trust Morocco has earned regarding matters of global peace and security.
The visit by Lacroix takes place as the UN Secretary-General advances significant reform projects. These include the “UN 80” initiative, designed to streamline the UN Secretariat, alongside a comprehensive strategic review of all peacekeeping operations. This broader effort aims to modernize the global security architecture and prioritize political diplomacy in conflict resolution.
