Senegal: Ousmane Sonko elected president of the National Assembly
Just four days after being dismissed as Prime Minister, Ousmane Sonko has been elected President of Senegal’s National Assembly.

Leader of the African Patriots of Senegal for Work, Ethics and Fraternity (PASTEF) party, which holds power, Sonko secured 132 votes out of the 133 cast. He takes over from El Malick Ndiaye, who resigned from the position last Sunday.
On Monday evening, President Bassirou Diomaye Faye appointed Ahmadou Al Aminou Lô as the new Prime Minister. Lô previously served as Minister in charge of Monitoring, Guidance and Evaluation of the ‘National Transformation Program for Senegal 2050’ under the presidency, before becoming Secretary-General of the Senegalese government.
