Since the Ebola Bundibugyo virus was officially declared in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo on May 15, response mechanisms have been activated, facilitating prompt medical care in the affected health zones across Ituri, North Kivu, and South Kivu. To date, these efforts have resulted in 19 patients successfully recovering from the illness and being discharged from Ebola treatment centers (ETCs), according to data from the National Institute of Public Health (INSP).

Health statistics current as of June 7 confirm a total of 550 confirmed cases, which have included 101 deaths across all impacted areas. At present, 309 patients are undergoing treatment in isolation.

The Ituri province remains the epicenter of the outbreak. Of the 25 health zones affected by the disease, 17 are situated in Ituri, which accounts for nearly half of the province’s 36 total health zones.

The specific zones of concern within Ituri are Aru, Aungba, Bambu, Bunia, Damas, Gety, Kilo, Komanda, Lita, Logo, Mambasa, Mangala, Mongbwalu, Nizi, Nyankunde, Rimba, and Rwampara.
