The Nigerian Armed Forces announced the successful liberation of 360 hostages held by Boko Haram in the southern region of Borno State, located in the northeastern part of the country.

According to an official military statement, the rescue operation unfolded in the rugged terrain of the Mandara Mountains, a known operational zone for the extremist group. This development follows a recent escalation in military operations against insurgents, including a joint counterterrorism effort with the United States that resulted in the neutralization of 175 ISWAP fighters last month.

The ongoing security crisis in northern Nigeria continues to deepen, fueled by over a decade of jihadist violence, frequent kidnappings for ransom, and illegal mining activities that undermine regional stability. The prolonged instability has left countless communities vulnerable and disrupted livelihoods across the region.

United Nations reports indicate that the conflict in northeastern Nigeria has claimed thousands of lives and displaced millions from their homes. While President Bola Tinubu has pledged to restore security, critics argue that current measures have not yet provided adequate protection for civilians in high-risk areas.
