Morocco secures first seat at UN general assembly session
The Kingdom of Morocco has been selected by random draw to hold the first seat during the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, kicking off in September in New York.
In a full plenary session held Tuesday in New York, UN Secretary-General António Guterres conducted the random draw to determine which nation would occupy the first seat at the upcoming General Assembly session. Following established protocol, Morocco was chosen.
«The Secretary-General has just announced the name of the country that will take the first seat in the General Assembly hall during the next session. That country is Morocco,»
The same session also saw the election of Khalilur Rahman, Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister, as President of the 81st General Assembly. Member states further appointed vice-presidents for the session, including the United States, China, France, the United Kingdom, Russia, Egypt, Afghanistan, and Gabon.
The General Assembly, the UN’s universal body encompassing all 193 member states, serves as the organization’s primary multilateral forum. Each state holds equal voting rights and plays a key role in approving the UN budget, electing non-permanent Security Council members, and appointing the Secretary-General.
