Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb touched down in Niamey this week for an official visit aimed at deepening strategic cooperation between Algeria and Niger. The trip, authorized by Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, underscores both nations’ commitment to expanding partnerships across key sectors.

The Algerian delegation, including the Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies and the Director-General of the Algerian Agency for International Cooperation for Solidarity and Development, engaged in high-level discussions with their Nigerien counterparts on bilateral relations and shared development priorities.

During the talks, both sides explored ways to accelerate joint projects and strengthen economic collaboration between Algiers and Niamey. The agenda highlighted mutually beneficial initiatives to boost infrastructure, trade, and long-term stability in the Sahel region.

A standout moment of the visit was the inauguration of a 40-megawatt thermal power plant in Niamey’s Gorou Banda district. Funded as a grant from Algeria, the facility is set to enhance Niger’s electricity generation capacity and improve energy access for communities across the capital. This project reflects Algiers’ ongoing support for Niger’s infrastructure growth and regional energy security.

Beyond energy, the visit included a meeting between Prime Minister Ghrieb and Niger’s President, where they reviewed future cooperation pathways and addressed regional and global issues of mutual concern. The discussions emphasized strengthening ties to better serve the interests of both nations’ citizens.

This official visit follows a period of intensified political and economic exchanges between Algeria and Niger, as both countries seek to solidify their partnership through concrete, people-centered initiatives.
