Christian Sedat paid a courtesy call to the metropolitan archbishop of Douala on Monday, 30 June 2026, where the two discussed the recent visit of Pope Leo XIV to Cameroon.
The German ambassador arrived at the bishopric of St. Peter and Paul Cathedral in Douala. He was welcomed by Archbishop Samuel Kleda, followed by a guided tour of the premises led by the chancellor of the archdiocese. The ambassador also explored the cathedral, which marks its 70th anniversary this year.
Strong ties linking Germany, Cameroon, and the Catholic Church
The ambassador and the archbishop exchanged views on the role of religious actors in society, particularly in light of the historic papal visit. This meeting also highlighted the enduring bonds between Germany, Cameroon, and the Catholic Church. Germany remains actively engaged on the ground, listening and in dialogue across the country.
Christian Sedat is a German diplomat currently serving as ambassador to Cameroon. He officially took up his post in Yaoundé in July 2025. He also served as deputy head of mission at the German embassy in Nouakchott, Mauritania, from 2005 to 2008.
Support for local social projects

His focus includes strengthening economic ties and development cooperation, overseeing sensitive cultural dialogues — particularly matters related to cultural property from the colonial era — and backing grassroots social initiatives such as public health micro-projects.
