Burkina : le chef du Bureau de l’ONUDC échange avec le chef de la diplomatie burkinabè

Burkina Faso’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Karamoko Jean Marie Traoré, accompanied by Deputy Minister Stella Eldine Kabre/Kabore, held an official audience on June 5, 2026, with the new head of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) bureau, Dr. Anselme Siméon Sanou. This diplomatic encounter provided an opportunity for the new UNODC representative to outline his primary objectives and seek the ministry’s support in executing various regional programs.

Strategic alignment against transnational threats

During the meeting, Dr. Sanou emphasized that the UNODC’s roadmap is designed to support the Burkinabè government’s existing initiatives. The agency’s focus remains centered on tackling organized crime, curbing the trafficking and consumption of illicit substances, halting the illegal arms trade, and fighting terrorism.

The UNODC bureau chief reiterated his organization’s steadfast commitment to assisting national efforts. In response, Minister Traoré congratulated Dr. Sanou on his appointment, highlighting the importance of having a leader who possesses a deep understanding of the local socio-political landscape.

Minister Traoré noted that Dr. Sanou’s field experience is a significant asset for the efficiency of international interventions in the country. He encouraged the new bureau chief to maintain close ties with both institutional partners and volunteer organizations. Furthermore, the head of diplomacy reaffirmed the ministry’s readiness to work hand-in-hand with the UNODC to address the persistent challenges related to peace and stability in Burkina Faso.
