adjal unveils Chad’s new 40 mw power plant foundation ceremony in N’Djamena
Energy Minister Mourad Adjal has declared that the groundbreaking ceremony for Chad’s upcoming 40-megawatt power plant in N’Djamena will take place within the next few days. The announcement came during a regional engagement in Niamey, where Adjal was present for the inauguration of the 40 MW Algerian-Nigerien solidarity power plant in Gorou Banda.
The inauguration event was led by the Algerian Prime Minister, Sifi Ghrieb, at the request of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, alongside Niger’s Prime Minister Ali Lamine Zeine Mahaman.
Adjal praised the completion of the Nigerien project, emphasizing Sonelgaz International’s ability to deliver large-scale energy initiatives across borders efficiently and on schedule. He also revealed that the company is advancing preparations for additional projects in several African nations, beginning with Chad’s 40 MW plant.
The Minister highlighted the growing demand for Sonelgaz International’s technical expertise, noting interest from countries such as Ivory Coast and Mozambique. These initiatives align with broader energy programs the company aims to execute, leveraging its specialized skills and accelerated project timelines.
Sonelgaz International is poised to become a key driver for Algerian public and private enterprises, integrating them into project phases under a value-chain approach. This strategy will bolster the participation of national companies in African markets, Adjal stated.
Earlier this year, Algeria and Chad formalized an agreement to construct the N’Djamena power plant, reinforcing bilateral cooperation in line with President Tebboune’s vision to support African nations and advance South-South collaboration.
